fiction novel written by Chan Koonchung. A kind of ‘brave new world’ set in China, The Fat Years is a complex novel of ideas that reveals all too chillingly the machinations of the postmodern totalitarian state and sets in sharp relief the importance of remembering the past in order to protect the future. First published in traditional Chinese versions in 2009 in both Hong Kong and also in Taiwan under the title ‘Prosperous Age: China in the year 2013 to date it has never been published in mainland China.
